I can only speak for the SMG horn bow but it's a pretty amazing bow. Smooth and fast. There is some shock with ultra light arrows (Actually a gram or 2 under recommended weight) but it's more audible than sensible because the grip absorps it. A very nice bow. Fast too. Suitable for competitions, very suitable for 3d shoots and the likes in rough terrain. Just point and laugh at those silly people carrying around 72 inch longbows almost twice as long
That said I do feel like it's very fragile but that's probably more in my head. Also I just came off a cheap fiberglass bow which was quite honestly expendable in my mind the second I bought it.
(Slightly off topic but my absolute dream bow would be a traditionally made magyar/hunnic/assyrian composite bow, preferably by Novotny from Saluki. But that's a dream to be shelved and cherished for another time )
BajanBow on Etsy has a few Magyar horn bows for sale that are pretty affordable... not that much draw length, though.
Meh, my bow is fine. Though it'd be nice to have one with birch bark and a smoother draw. Don't really need one, though. I should just get stronger. At least I can actually draw and shoot it now, and hit the broad side of a barn, even if I can't control it as much as I wish.
Wonder if I'll ever make any horn bows. That would be cool.
Daydreaming of making sinew backed bamboo or compression pine Korean and Crimean Tatar shaped bows, currently my two favorite kinds. May start with nylon cable back simple D bows like Bhutanese. Hmm.
This post is interesting http://www.koreanarchery.org/punbb/view … pid=77#p77
I doubt YMG bows are that resistant at bad treatment unless they're light versions, though (don't try dry loosing one)
